Enzo I can tell you that as I left the Ground yesterday and walked behind Bristows the number of young boys and girls streaming out of the Away End all talking excitedly made me really proud of our Club and the initiatives being used to boost our attendances.

It makes such a diffrence to the Match atmosphere when we fill the Babbacombe End rather than seeing it empty.

Great credit to our New Owners who are getting it right 100% of the time in all areas. It just shows that when you have the right people in charge the sky is the limit.

Although I first visited Plainmoor in 1989, I did miss the Leroy years and the fantastic football/attendances that came with it, so my experience of the crowds has always pretty much always been between 1800 and 2200.
To be honest it is amazing, it feels like after decades of living on the edge and doing everything the wrong way, we finally have a plan and are implementing it and the fans are responding.
I expected 3000 for the first few games, then to drop off to somewhere around 2500. To be have these numbers continually through the gates is fantastic and tbh it’s lovely to see the ground looking so full and feel optimistic about the future.

The big test will be if we have a poor run of form/defeats, hopefully most will stay.

On the free tickets, I never know it’s even happening until I see the away end open. I’d say we had 600-700 there on Saturday?

So i see we finished with an average attendance of 3865 - quite unbeleivable considering the level and unthinkable when i first started going in the 80s

Why are attendances up here and elsewhere around lower football league / non league clubs?

Product is better through coaching and flow down of academy cast offs, facilities are better, social media spreading the word, affordable with Premier league too expensive or a once a season tourist experience, something you can see and do rather than a digital experience......

More like football used to be. Stand on terrace. Close to pitch. Reasonably priced. No VAR. Football more exciting than much of the boring pass it about at the back Premier League (and England). More of a community. People fed up with Premier League.

Spot on.

EPL/EFL football is disappearing up it's own sideways/backwards hoop, the matchday experience is bland and corporate, the grounds all look and feel the same.

Non league is where it's at.

Our average attendance is a bit off due to the amount of freebie tickets, however it would still be much higher than at any time during my years supporting them since the 80s, although we did have decent crowds with Leroy here.I never thought we would ever get much more than 2000 ever again, so this season has been a revelation and has shown the appetite for Non League football and Torquay. Whether they’d go higher if we became a FL club again, who knows?

I agree with all the above posters, the PL is all wrapped up in a little bow, from the grounds to the pitches, the silly pyro, the pretty football, the only difference in most new stadiums seems to be the colour of their seats. People have been priced out, maybe they’re fed up of players ‘earning’ £250 000+ a week, even Championship players are on staggering amounts, maybe it’s the narratives being constantly pushed by the higher authorities, maybe it’s seeing people wearing the shirts of big clubs when they’ve never even set foot in the stadium, maybe it’s VAR or waiting for a decision, it kills the passion, changing the name of your ground. The Emirates just doesn’t evoke memories like Highbury used to.

For me, the little moments of quality in a game in our division are the ones I enjoy, those moments that get the Pop side cheering, I also like being close enough to see the players, hear what Wotton is shouting at them or the ref, in big grounds people at the back must just see little matchstick men.

Who knows but it’s fab news, as long as we’re getting consistent or increasing gates, it gives us more opportunity to get in the league, with the knowledge we’ll not be big enough to ever become one of those above clubs and keep our identity.
