Fair result I am afraid...
Sorry but that was utter dross - tactically it was inept and there were some really poor quality performances all round. They'd been caught two against one on the right hand side a couple of minutes before the goal and were lucky to escape and yet the defence went completely missing again.

Hahaha, maybe a touch of humility wouldn’t go amiss next season
A performance 100% typical of the Wotton era. Zero attacking intent, zero game plan to even try to attack. Not a chance we were ever going to score from open play in that game with the way he set up. Boreham Wood absolutely worthy winner, good luck to them in the final.

Major, and completely unforced, error restoring Threlkeld to the lineup. After 40-odd games you had finally found the team and the way of playing that produced your best play and then with the season on the line you go away from it. Insane. Midfield offered absolutely nothing today.
Obviously if you have the chance to go up you want to do it so today is incredibly disappointing. But let's be honest, this team even having the chance at promotion had much more to do with how terrible this league is than how good our squad is. The holes in the squad are obvious and need to be dealt with if we're going to build a team capable not just of going up but staying up once we get there. We talk about how wonderful it will be when we're a Football League club again but we are a long, long way off that. We're a National League South club and we're a National League South club on merit. We've earned nothing more.
Given what he had to work with when he got here (literally nothing) you have to give credit to Wotton for building a squad that gave us a chance. But now we must build on the foundation that's there to build a team not just to win this league but to dominate it. That has to be the objective. No more worrying about goal difference on the final day. No more playoff lotteries. Smash this league. It's no good building a team which might eke out promotion and then come straight back down. Did anyone think that team today looked ready to compete a level higher?

Really disappointing end to the season, congratulations to Boreham Wood deserved winners on the day.

Anyone know why Craske was ghosted by the manager for the month? A player in such good form literally cast aside without any explanation or meeting? Did that unsettle players?
Could not agree more, it was a terrible watch. Utter dross is so accurate.exilegull wrote: 03 May 2025, 16:02 Sorry but that was utter dross - tactically it was inept and there were some really poor quality performances all round. Beaten by a better team today.
We never really got going but over the three games I've seen them I think BW are the best team in this league.
I hope they go up or they'll likely be favourites next year.
I know there are lots of ifs, but if we'd played out a few games like they did today (Slough, Chelmsford & BW for three), then we'd have won the league.

Absolutely this. We really haven't been good enough for promotion, & while obviously we wouldve taken going up this squad is nowhere near good enough for league above.
An amazing season. An amazing turnaround. I feel closer to the club than I ever have, what an amazing legacy and thank you to the Bryn Consortium and the TUFC family. The final game was our season in a nutshell. Set-up not to lose for 60mins +. It was a free hit game, a win:win. Absolutely baffling especially as we had looked good with the handbrake off for 4 or 6 games? We had nothing to lose as no one realistically thought we would be 2nd. Night and day from last season but, I feel like the players were suppressed by tactics today.
We were awful. A performance so typical of the Wotton era. Zero attacking intent, so passive, set up to try not to lose. Got what we deserved, not a chance we were scoring from open play. Time to move on from him

Can’t complain. The better team won. Faster, stronger, better shape, game management etc. We never got a sniff. Clear display of what we need to be next season.
As I’ve said before, we haven’t really improved as the season has progressed. Best performance was home to Chelmsford with Ben Seymour in the starting lineup! Can’t be using the new team excuse, we remained ok, fairly good, but not dominant. As Boreham Wood demonstrated today.
Some tough decisions to be made but we need a couple of older heads.

Torquay United are the undoubted masters of providing disappointment, and today will be one of those occasions.
A final score of 3-4 to the Wood, with their winning goal coming in the sixth minute of injury time!
Looking at the positives: at least we won't lose in the final!![]()
Well the goals and injury time winner were not there, but everything else fell into place in typical Torquay United fashion!

The players gave everything against a very physical opposition. I personally don't get all this negativity. What a season it's been. Anyone spouting dross such as that we should have pissed the league should go and find a new sport to watch!
Another day we win that. Today we didn't. That happens, take the positives, take a break and get prepped for Buckland away pre season!
