yeah, i was there. i remembered the last blackpool penalty being bad, but didn't remember it being THAT bad !!

a couple of memories of the night, apart from the obvious celebrations etc, were arriving at wembley, all the pubs were shut, so me and my mate joined a queue at an off license, where they were selling tins of beer at the door (not letting you in), and i handed over cash and received some shi**y warm tins of tennents, which was not great !!

also remember during the shoot out, the bloke sat in front of me didn't watch a single penalty. had his back to the pitch, and he reacted depending on how the rest of us reacted. was funny as hell, and he went nuts at the end.

Why ever not my Dad is 90 and still fit as a flea with all his faculties? The only regret I have is he is not a football supporter so he can't tell me tales about when we were playing at Cricketfield Road! Good season coming up Roberbito (nice Italian sounding name there ... Naples? ) and I am looking forward to this season more than I have looked forward to many. My 49th, a new manager, a better squad than last year whatever Brucie may try to brainwash me with, and a top three finish!

maybe why he is still fit and healthy, haha intresting point tho where do people think this club will be in 50 - 80 year? im sure there will be lots of ups and downs, i wonder what footy will even be like when im 50 and wayne rooney is a manager lol

i can only imagine the kind of emotion that night, penalty shoot - outs are hard egnogh to watch on the telly let alone live with thousands of others!

Just look and think where the two clubs are now. They just braced the premiership and now in the championship and were back down in league 2. You wouldnt have thought it back when that game was played. The prem wasnt even around then. How did they do so well and we didnt

I still have the MOD DEC shirt in a drawer. Alas it appears to have shrunk somewhat in the 20 or so years

I have the MOD DEC windows yellow and white striped home shirt.

Followed by Orion as the sponsor and I think Westward, those were my favourite TUFC home shirts, love the white and yellow stripes with navy shorts. Awesome kits.

My fave shirt is the 'newer' SuperLeague version of that one (with Westward Developements on it).
They don't make 'em like they used to...

I was a student in twickenham at the time and a bit of a fair-weather 'teletext' fan to be honest but on the spur of the moment decided to go with two mates - one a Newcastle united fan from Plymouth! We rocked up late after an afternoon of drink and other social lubricants, paid on the gate and saw an absolute belter. Memories of it are a little dim but I seem to remember a young Paul hall coming on as sub, tearing down the wing with skill and pace and then more or less tripping over himself! And of course the shoot out - absolute delirium! I also remember walking round the concourse after the game and the fan next to me got punched right in the face by some eejit with an orange painted face. We then got chased across the car park by some mental and clearly bitter tangerine fans - happy days! It was so late we couldn't get back to twickenham and had to doss in mates mums house in ponders end. Have blackpool ever beaten us?

Ah but us old 'uns take things literally Trojan ... in football seasons it is 21.... and of course our memory of the 60's with Robin Stubbs et al and being one of the better teams in Division 3 (now league 1) mixing with the likes of QPR, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa, Fulham, was also at the time trumped by our predecessors with those excellent teams from the 50's with Sammy Collins being the Torquay United Dixie Dean and going in to a last day away to Crystal Palace where we were the favourites to beat them and go up to what is now the championship as champions (we drew of course and Ipswich Town went up winning the Football League (now called Premiership) 5 years later). I hope that a supporter who wasn't old enough to see a game in 1991 is still there wearing the yellow and blue in 2071. Won't be there to see it myself but a nice thought that somebody will be (he will probably be sitting alongside Brucie in the stand! )

That Blackpool game was the inspiration behind the start of the Gloucester Gulls. Still Ably managed By Chris Cox god bless his little socks. We followed United for many years but going home after Victory in that final was one of the strangest and most disapointing times in my life. trying to celebrate but doing it with large hoards of Blackpool fans as they went the same way home we did at the start whereas the torquay fans went in almost the opposite direction.
I would like to think the GG would still be running in 2071 but with a hundred members and regular coaches to all games home and away singing our hearts out at every game while noting Rovers had just won the Western league.
Plainmoor having been rebuilt into a 15,000 seater stadium mostly filled each and every game as we become a very well established league 1 team flirting with promotion to the Championship (but not quite making it instead of going up and going bust) Ah well I can dream.
Brucie will still probably be there with Trojan and Matt and SG all throwing a wobbly at Paul Buckles Love child Paul raynor Junior as he scores an own goal.
