Macklin loaned out to Salisbury

Lloyd Macklin is going out on loan to Blue Square South Salisbury City until 9th January. A good move for the player, with a decent club at a decent level - his reaction on Twitter suggests he is happy to be getting some game time. Hopefully he will get some regular starts and may even play for them on Saturday in the 2nd Round FA Cup game against Grimsby which should attract a decent crowd I would have thought. Hope it goes well for him as he certainly has some potential and appears to have been working hard on building up his strength - which he used to good effect with a brilliant individual goal against Cheltenham reserves on Tuesday.

My only concern would be that obviously he won't be available for us over the busy Xmas/New Year period and it will certainly mean we are a little short of wide men for the Swindon match as Bodin will be ineligible for that one. Hopefully we don't pick up any injuries/suspensions over the coming weeks.

We would have to give them permission to play him in him in the F.A. Cup, but other than that I think they will benefit a lot from Lloyd Macklin, pace, skill and an improving game.

Yeah, think that will be a formality though as he's there until 9th January which will include the 3rd Round (due to be played on the weekend of the 7-8 January) should Salisbury progress. To be fair, they probably have a better chance of doing that than us .... but you never know!

Yep, that is a good move for Macklin, I was not the only fan encouraged by his pre-season performances and dont understand why he has not had more of a chance to prove himself in the first team.

Is there an issue with him on the training ground or something else? If so then move him on surely.

Agree forever, he should have been given more opportunities than he has so far this season. You could argue that we've done perfectly well without him but i just think we would be a stronger team with him in it. It must be hard to be in a league 2 squad and not get a look in week in week out and if it were me i would certainly prefer to go out on loan to at least get some competetive game time and some confidence. Good luck to Mackers anyway.

I'm a little disappointed, as I really like Mackers, and would like to see him given more of a run in TUFC colours. He has a lot of pace, and had a really good game at Cheltenham, in the paint pot trophy. Surely, he has to be better than Nanny? However, it will be good for him to get regular football, and perhaps, when he comes back. he will be able to command a first team place. I, for one, hope so.

I think he can do a good job at league 2 level, his performances in pre season were good, plus he had a nice 15 minutes at Southampton. Something must have happened "behind the scenes" between Ling and Macklin because there must be some reason why he hasn't been playing? Anyway good luck to Macklin at Sailsbury and I hope we see him in a TUFC shirt again.

I was going to post something on the similar lines. Remember Macklin is a lad who as a schoolboy was on the radar of the likes of Chelsea, yet a few years down the line we are farming him out to the BSS to get some game time. Tells you something, doesn't it?

For someone so (apparantly) talented, to be shown the door by Swindon then barely get a look-in under two TUFC managers, something for me doesn't ring right about his attitude. You'd think that our current system would be made for someone like Macklin - pace and trickery could have seen him doing for us what Myrie-Williams was doing against us last Friday - but since we adopted that shape he's barely even made the 16. There must be good reason for this move, as it does leave us incredibly light if we were to lose Bodin or Stevens. Morris couldn't play that position, and Halpin is nowhere near ready.

To be fair, I absolutely dispised his efforts last season but in the short amount of time I have seen him in action this season (away at Southampton) he showed some fantastic pace and delivered an absolute on-the-money cross which little Danny nearly headed in for the equaliser (honestly!)

You get the feeling that for his career, Macklin has to come back from this loan with a renewed attitude - otherwise he may be getting used to BSS changing rooms next year.

Out of interest, can we still loan someone or are we past the deadline now? Just wondered if this was part of Mr Ling's master plan of getting the best winger in League 2 history in on loan. It might mean we see a bit more of Halpin if not.

loan window has passed, so our squad is this now untill jan. Inless we let anyone else go to non league

I think he has potential, and his loan period will show whether he can realise it or not. I'll happily take a bet with you that he isn't shown the door - if you're that confident how does a 10/1 odds sound?
