flippin eckythump. I should have put missed 2.
A Former Rovers player also scored on his debut for The full England side and that weas while he was also playing for Rovers. He s the most famous player they are ever likely to have. Geoff Bradford.
The other lot over the River wot play in Red also had a player who got full international recognition at the time called John Atyeo. One of their stands is named after him. he played around 5 games for England.
Don't think any of the Devon Clubs have ever had a player in the full England side whiles't at the club.

wow it looks as if you were. The England one has to be qualified as i did ask how many competative matches had been abandoned. The Czech one is the only match as the others were friendlies.

There have been quite a few records for abandones matches but the funniest fact I came across was in the match at Chelsea when Charlton Goalkeeper Sam Bartram was left in goal after the match was ababdoned due to very heavy fog. (anyone tried to weigh it to see how heavy it is). He was still on the pitch some 10 minutes after all the players had left the pitch assuming that they were upfield attacking the opposition goal as he couldn't even see as far as the half way line. a Policeman eventually told him that they were all in the dressing rooms.

The obviously saddest one was the Bradford City Fire where you were indeed correct. This match does stand as one of the 5 abandoned matches.

Last season was also Notable for matches called off. Our near (well it is to us relatively) Cheltenham Towns match was called off after a major failure of their floodlights with 66 mins of their match played but it wasn't the shortest match that night.
Rochdale v Oldham played just 6 mins when the heavens opened and their match was washed out. Not to be outdone though was Hartlepools who had played only 3 minutes of their match against Notts County when rain flooded the pitch and the match had to be abandoned due to waterlogged pitch.

The Player who played for both sides in the same match was indeed Jimmy Oakes. he played For Port Vale in a second division match against Charlton Athletic on Boxing Day 1932. The match was called off after 63 minutes due to fog and subsequently a few days later he was sold to Charlton for £3000. The match was eventualy played again on April 26th. Strangly enough Port Vale were winning 4-1 when the match was abandoned. the replayed match ended up with a 2-1 to Charlton.

That'll be a certain Sir Geoffrey Charles Hurst MBE who played for Essex in the early 60s (mostly in the 2nd XI I think). :keepie:
Not bad at footy either

Don't know about that but I believe Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras cost a combined £30 :)

There have been instanced of players getting injured in embarrassing moments and ways ie Tommy Tynan being injured by a flying tea pot.
name the two Torquay players who have been involved in an embarrasing injury invloving a challange on the team coach.
