Lee Hughes in trouble again

Post by Glostergull »

It seems as though Lee Hughes still hasn't learned his lesson. It was reported on the News yesterday the he was arrested on suspicion of a sexual assualt on a girl. He has now been charged.
One would have thought that after his disgracefull record in the last he would have kept his head down the just played football and stopped being the big star.
He really shouldn't have been given another chance of stardom after what he had done previously. They say you do your time and then should be allowed to get on with life. But in his case he has done so little time for the crime he commited that most wouldn't argue that he has served a decent enough sentence.
This will no doubt end his careeer for good. Hopefully we won't see his sort again.

Notts County and some of its fans probably didn't exactly help matters by bigging-up the guy as some kind of club hero figure. Remember the Lee Hughes masks that the club were handing our for fans to wear on match days? Disgusting.

Quality Gloster! I agree with Richinns though. The man is abhorrent and deserves to be tied up and forced to watch continuous screenings of 'TAKE ME OUT' for a whole week. Then he can be untied and we can all get sponsors to give money to victims of road accidents / rape crisis charities in exchange for administering the pathetic specimen a good mullering. It would be cheap to do, we could do it in a pub car park. :-D
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Pleased to see that principles of justice; innocent before proven guilty, etc - seem to apply only to people that are likeable. That's obviously the way it should be.

If the guy did it, lock him up and throw away the key. But there are many footballers who get accused of 'sexual assault' and then it turns out to be false. So it's probably best to wait until whatever happens, happens.

After he's convicted, then you can all light your torches and grab your pitchforks

He has already been convicted. Ran away from a car accident scene (where 1 was killed and others badly injured) and went into hiding for days.
It was reported that he ran because he was under the influence of drink/drugs - but by the time they caught up with him days later this could not be proved/tested.

Should never have been released - regardless of the latest reports.

He was convicted of an entirely different crime. For which he was imprisoned. I don't want to be the bleeding heart liberal (even though I probably am) but that offence is different to this one. Hughes served his time for that crime. Whether or not you think he should still be banged up is irrelevant - the court and the judge made the decision, he served his time, he was released. It happens.

I get that people don't think he should have been released; hell, I think that the time he actually served was on the soft side - but surely the point of any justice system isn't to punish for life, but to rehabilitate. By all accounts (I can't find the particular link) Hughes seemed to have made moves to speak with the deceased's family, and organised a charity football match for a kids hospice. Which at least suggests a willingness to accept his mistakes and learn from them.

This new case is entirely different, and given the propensity of footballers to find themselves involved in cases of this nature, I'd wait until the prosecution is complete. If he is found guilty then I'll be booing and hissing along with the rest of you.

I'd usually agree with you Happy but in this case tough shit on Hughes if he is innocent or not i couldn't care less. Lock him up again anyway. Would the world be worse off if he was in the nick? Some people just don't deserve a fair crack of the whip.
