Oh Bix don`t let Troj know there`s a pub called Coopers Tavern up there, we`ll never see him again! Oh hang on a minute I see your plan now!bixieupnorth wrote:more like 15 but its a straight line!! best pubs in twon, burton bridge inn and coopers tavern, turn right out of station. however its the burton beer festival in town hall next to station, £2 in plus refundable glass deposit

I told you to knock it off with the ale Bix, you'll still get liver failure drinking hops and barley son! My days of drinking before games have long gone now i'm afraid. I'm still only fairly young but i'm on medication and can't drink until after about 6 or 7pm. ( Medication for something other than mental illness i must add!) Thanks for the heads up though with the pubs mate.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

I've been on to the Burton forum and they've suggested a number of pubs. Is there a particular pub everyone is going to? i'll be in Burton for 11ish i think so i'd like to find a table and watch the early Kick Off.

I'm going on the train too, obviously from down here though!austrianandygull wrote:Just rang Burton and it's £14 standing and the car park is £2. The train station is only a 10 minute straight walk away too apparently so i might go on the train if i don't have to change.

link to google map of burton here:-
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?oe=utf-8& ... CDUQ8gEwAA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
as you can see it is a dead straight line, the railway station exit is on a bridge, if yr going right to ground, turn left then right onto derby st, and its a good 15 minute yomp to the ground, maybe one decent looking pub on the way
for a decent pub turn right, to the coopers tavern http://www.joulesbrewery.co.uk/pubs/pub ... s.php?id=6" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
or carry on a bit towards the river, for the burton bridge inn, with its own brewery in the back yard http://www.burtonbridgeinn.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and of course the beer festival in the town hall right beside the station!!
saturday is as close to heaven as its possbile to get!! a torquay united match AND a beer festival!! http://www.burtoncamra.org.uk/festival_1.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
yellow army!!
ps i'm sorry if any of these links prove objectionable to our junior members, already been censored this week for promoting gambling and swinging!!

Every establishment serving alcoholic refreshment, still pays homage to the craft of the cooper-smith (blacksmith with speciality in barrel making).Aussie wrote:

Note cooper- smith is a double barrelled name. It must be coincidence.
I know nothing o:) about making barrels. However, I will hold my drinking arm (left/right, whatever, doesn't matter) right up now and admit that I've emptied quite a few over the years and in the age old proper time honoured fashion.

Aye, I've stared done a barrel or two and then "done 'em". Landlords (together with gunfighters, probably) will always say it is preferable to be behind a barrel than staring down one. From experience, from this viewpoint, it depends on whether it is loaded or empty.
![Nod :nod:](./images/smilies/yes.gif)
If it is loaded and you take it full on then you are gone for a burton.
For those who are going to Burton on Saturday, enjoy it's delights, they're not called the Brewers for nothing. Enjoy the day and the match.

Only 50% of the Southampton Pouse are going to this one, but just looked online and it actually works out cheaper to go by train than it does to take the car, with only one stop at Birmingham New Street.
Is anyone else going from New Street who may want to meet up and share a cab or walk to the ground with?
I should be at Burton on Trent Station at 13:20
Alex it does mean I can have a beer on the way![Glasses :)](./images/smilies/glasses.gif)

I'm going for a Rene Howe hat-trick ( anyone know who was the last player to score 3 in game for us?). I think this will be a big, big win with Jarvis and Morris chipping in too. 5-1 to the Gulls.
Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.
