Pretty sure I'd have played against him in the Clennon Valley 7-a-side league. There used to be quite a few guys playing who clearly fancied themselves.
It was very satisfying my team would show up and beat them. (although sometimes we'd get our arses handed to us)

Any team he's in, asssuming no-one gets sent off, will be two short of a dozen..
(for those who don't get it: Baker's dozen = 13)
Is it the way I tell 'em..?
Or are my jokes too old..?

Don't be so hard on yourself...it's not how you tell them.Gullscorer wrote:Any team he's in, asssuming no-one gets sent off, will be two short of a dozen..

Ive been told by one of his mates its a six months contract.
Don't think this is such a bad move. Every year somebody manages to uncover a gem from nowhere, why not us. Probably for every one Charlie Austin there are 20 duds, but if you don't look you'll never find. Didn't someone on another thread point out that Baker was a local lad who had been on the books at Bournemouth? So its not like he's been plucked straight out of the local 7's league.
I remember a few years ago we trialled a guy called Marc Berry, who had scored some obscene amount of goals for Ivybridge. He played in a friendly against Newton Abbott, where we also trialled an ex Eire U-21 international called Patrick Flynn who came from Wolves. To be fair, Berry didn't look good enough for L2 and we didn't sign him, but I thought he was Flynn - so I managed to confuse what was essentially a Sunday league player with a Premier League academy graduate and junior international. (as it transpired we signed Flynn, who played one game away at Grimsby. He was utter tosh, and was never seen again. We'd have been better off with the Sunday League player!)
Its worth looking at these sorts of players with a view to keeping them on a development contract. If you uncover that one gem like a Charlie Austin, it can be an absolute goldmine

Never mind Charlie Austin - lets hope he is an Ian Wright!

I'm pretty sure that I saw Karl Baker this afternoon strolling through Old Town Street in Plymouth wearing a knee brace. If it was him, and, as I said, I'm convinced it was, bit of a shame for him on such a short contract in which to prove himself. Anyone confirm that he is injured?

How was he both strolling and wearing a knee brace?
One of our lads is injured and in a knee brace, but it is Dan Sullivan. He will find out (and I have asked him to keep me/us/Twitter posted) how badly injured he is on Monday.
Matt.

Hobbling, I'd believe, but not strolling. Strolling is leisurely, casual, relaxed, not the sort of thing one might do with a knee brace fitted.
