I've often wondered whether former player like Jamie Ward appreciate Torquay as a club for helping them develop.

I obviously know that Wardy wasn't here for long but do these pros know that a lower league manager does have to take a punt on these players sometimes before they rise up the leagues.

I think it's like anything Steve, some do and some don't. I keep up with Ross Hannah and Matlock Town via Twitter and he is always complimentary about his former club. I know that's subtly different to the Wardy situation, but it does show that some players do have respect and regard for the "little people", which, clearly, becomes a relative term in this situation.

I think it's perhaps more prevalent among managers (or maybe it's just that managers are more able to do something demonstrative about it. A player can only play for one club, a manager can loan out many players). We have always been looked upon favourably by guys like Warnock and the bloke with the odd, alphanumeric, username has sought to exploit this once again with his suggestion of Davide Somma on loan from Leeds to us.

There's a chance of getting Davide Somma on loan? I'd snap his hand off, he was good in League 1 and should be a beast for us.

I can't be arsed to quote from it, but the article definitely says purple.

Also, as mentioned on an entirely superfluous thread, Sillsy notched for Basingstoke today. They were 1-0 down on 48 minutes and 6-1 up by the 64th.

WAIT!

Go back and read that again and think about it. 0-1 on 48, 6-1 on 64. One guy got 4 including 2 in the same minute. He got an 8 minute hat trick.

This is a harsh post which is sure to offend the blind defender that the opposition team brought off the bench. Sort yourself out, Matt.

Well done Steve. You've managed to satirise not only the forum, but society at large in one immaculate post. I feel a MOTM vote coming your way.

Well I try Matt. No, seriously. I'm trying so hard.

In other news Branston has left ANOTHER club. Straight to a permanent deal at Rovers?

I don't think there's any chance he'll go to Rovers. I love Branno, but surely it's time for him to knock it on the head now? He's had a few good years, I don't think he needs to tarnish (not sure that's the right word, but I can't seem to think of anything more appropriate) his excellent reputation by continually scabbing around for any old crumbs that are thrown his way. He has earned far too much respect in the game for that.

This "don't talk wet" thing seems to be catching on. Northern influences? As no one has ever said that from my neck of the woods!

But where does it end? Peter Schmeichel at Aston Villa, Mark Hughes at Chelsea, Claridge at just about every non-league club in England?
He's had his career now, he's had his time, he needs to bow out at the top. He's good enough now for the Conference, which is fine, but next year it'll be Conference South, then Evo-Stik, then the Dog and Duck. He'll always be good enough for someone, he must decide when someone is not good enough for him and, given the life he now has, we're it my calling to advise him on such matters, I'd be telling him to knock it on the head. I know first hand (or at least first secind-hand) how hard Jesus Hargreaves found it to stop playing. His habits in the gym were testament to that, but he did the right thing in calling it a day on playing and moving into the next step of his career.
