2013/4 season ticket prices and entrance fees announced

clearly none of you have heard of the economic concept "price elasticity of demand" which speaks about how much demand for an item or service rises/falls with price. football is generally quite 'inelastic' in the an increase in prices does not hugely affect demand. for example, a 10% increase in price does generally result in a 10% decrease in demand. The reasons fro this are fairly obvious - you're committed to your club. It's simply not like buying loaf of bread. If Tescos charge £3 for bread for Lidl charges 40p, you're happy to make that choice. But even if Plymouth was a tenner compared to our 20 quid, it probably wouldn't make you switch.

I'm glad you brought the VAT issue back up again as i had no idea that each time i pay for a ticket to go to a game then i am paying VAT on it. Ok so i know i'm a bit simple and you can't believe how i COULDN'T know such a thing but i honestly didn't. With that in mind and a ticket for the pop is £17 then presumably the actual cost that the club is charging me is about £14 or so. Is this right? If so i take back all i have said on the subject and do feel that the current pricing structure is fine and i'm happy to pay it. I thought that the club got the full £17 which i thought too high but now i know about the VAT thing i think it's good value. Sorry for being so dense. :na:

When Bateson was in charge we'd have games where the place looked absolutely packed (Blackpool towards end of L1 season springs to mind) and the announced attendance would be about 5k. A good 1300 underneath the supposed capacity - I was convinced at the time it was a swizz by Bateson to avoid having to give the taxman the VAT on those extra 1000+ tickets.

Not that I'm suggesting that good Mr. Bateson would ever seek to avoid paying tax. In case there are any lawyers watching

What is most frustrating is that this information is easily available, so the board have decided to make Plainmoor prices higher than virtually anywhere else will be next sseason if they go down.

Of course all conference clubs could choose to increase prices...but let's be realistic no board would be so stupid!

I live about 8 miles from Alfreton and in all seriousness the place is actually just a large village. If you imagine somewhere like Histon or Nailsworth ( where Forest Green play ) then Alfreton is pretty much like that. They get low crowds as is to be expected but i believe they were hoping to capitalise as best they could upon promotion to the conference by ramping up the ticket prices in the hope that the conference will be such a new experience that they'll get away with it.

The bizarre thing is that the 'village' is surrounded by football league clubs including Mansfield, Chesterfield, the Nottingham clubs and Derby and it's not as if the locals have a shortage of options.

I honestly don't want us to go down because, although Alfreton is 10 minutes away, the day i'm in that ground watching Torquay will be the day it really hits home as to just how bad things have got. COME ON TORQUAY!!

Haps, I'm fully genned up on PED, but I hate it with a passion, so I couldn't bring myself to type even the modest (but excellent) explanation you have offered. I hadn't accounted for US prices being Ex. tax, but many things are still vastly less costly (even relative to income) in the States (you are, of course, the last person who needs telling).

Come on Mid, let's be sensible about this. The club barely scrape by as it is, let alone by reducing prices to a bleeding tenner a man a match, we'd go out of business by October. In point of fact, the cheapest adult standing next season at Torquay, regardless of division, will be equivalent to £13/match. I'm not sure if you've ever been to Hereford, but given the choice between £13 to stand in Plainmoor or £16 to stand at Hereford, would you stand nearer the Family Stand or the away end?*

We had ticket offers for a couple of home games recently didn't we?

I think the reason we don't tend to bother, is that we lose money. We don't have any kind of latent support. We have a core 1800-2200 that will turn up regardless. There aren't hundreds of others that would come if the prices were a bit lower. All we'd do is lose some of the income from those that would have turned up anyway.
