Hi everyone,
As I am sure many of you are aware, the former Torquay goalkeeper John Turner owned the Jolly Sailor pub at East Ogwell, which was sadly devastated by fire last week. John had two spells at Plainmoor (1978-1980 and 1983-84) making 110 appearances in that time. One of the many things John lost in the fire was his treasured programmes from his playing days, as well as photos and other memorabilia.
While so much of it can never be replaced, many of the programmes from that time can be, so I - along with a mutual friend and Ogwell resident - are trying to track down as many programmes from that time as we can and wondered if there are any Gulls fans out there that either have them and are willing to part with them to give to John. I am sure he's devastated to lose everything, but I am sure United fans can unite and come together as one to replace at least some of the things he lost in the fire.
If anyone can help, please PM me on here, call Kevin on 07702 098021, or Stuart on 07968 587737. We appreciate they be of sentimental and/or financial value to many, so again, we greatly appreciate any help from the Yellow Army.

Devastating news for the couple. Saw the fire on the news and how much of his memorabilia has been lost. Used to pop in there every now and again and obviously football was the subject. The best keeper i saw too.
Fingers crossed he can at least get some programmes back.

Hopefully I sent you a pm about the programmes. if you didn't get it pm me.
I hope John manages to acquire some programmes . He has great affection for his time here and an incredible memory for the matches he played in - scorers , incidents etc. Remember him saying that a few years ago Mike Mahoney came in the pub , wish I'd been there - chatting to the best two keepers I've seen play for us.

I have lots of programmes and memorabila going back to 1949 with complete seasons through the 70's and 80's, I gave it all to the club pre covid with a view to establishing a museum at the club but after showing a lot of interest initially they don't want to know . I have asked for it all back but would be delighted to give it all to John Turner. I am contacting the club now covid has been relaxed and can arrange for it all to be sent to the Jolly Sailor. Let me know if this is a goer.
Sadly there is very little left of The Jolly Sailor. That is an amazing gesture and if you PM me I can let you know my address as I am the person who put out the appeal via Stu James.
Kind regards
Kevin
