Financial Situation.
Financial Situation.
I am really worried, not only are we in a relegation fight but the club is in a financial crises. Torquay United cannot afford to pay it's bill for matchday stewards. The company which do the stewarding at Torquay United has paid the stewards out of their own money, that will not last long. With the bill increasing for the club each game I am seriously worried that the club will edge it's way to administration unless investment is found. If we cannot even pay our stewarding bill then how are we going to survive as a football club.
I am sorry but this is absolute nonsense. The stewards are paid by the company that employs them ( which is not Torquay United) who in turn submit an invoice for services provided which the Club duly pays. Inaccurate scaremongering like this does not help anybody and certainly not the Club !

This "Brown" has never been on here before and his status is shown as "Reserve Player".
Thanks for nipping that pathetic scaremongering in the bud though Andy.

seemed a bit strange that we are still talking to Harper & there are some rumours of a centre forward in the offing( both or either of whom would probably not come on a voluntary basis) if we really were as broke as the OP is suggesting. Swift response Andrew, thanks !

Well said Mr Candy. With a moment's thought the OP should have realised what a silly comment he/she was about to make. One wonders if he/she is a fifth-columnist supporter of an opposing club who is trying to make mischief! It's to be hoped that our own supporters would be mature enough to stop and think first if they have any thought of posting such idiotic remarks.
We do have volunteers at the Club and their contribution is invaluable but they tend not to be the ones in shirts ,shorts and boots! I cannot really comment on player rumors but you never know what might appear on the O/S later today!

Clearly it is a not very bright tosser from a rival club. Who are you "Brown"?Gullscorer wrote:Well said Mr Candy. What colour do you get if you mix green and red, I'm pretty sure that makes brown. Perhaps he's an Exeter Argyle supporter (he certainly seems to have the correct lack of intellect).

I don't support Exeter.
I like your 'artistic' thinking there Matt!

Strangely enough it was Pope Gregory the 9th inviting me for drinks aboard his steam yacht, the saucy sue currently wintering in montego bay with the England cricket team and the Balanese Goddess of plenty.

Don't see the point in having an open forum if every thread that goes against the grain is deleted, if this person is a Torquay fan, then they've clearly made a mistake, and to be honest anything written on an independent fans forum should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Genuine question for Andy Candy, and I understand if he can't answer, does the club get invoiced for the number of stewards on duty ? I presume it does. Tuesday I was alarmed to look over at the away and see, some thing like 15 stewards for 33 Burton fans, and 3 stewards placed on the steps leading up to the fanatics flag, when there was no need, fans were behaving up there and peaceful, could any of these not needed stewards have been sent home?

There is no way that you can predict how many stewards are needed for a match. These stewards are arranged well in advance. They have to be contacted. They have to make sure they are available for that night.
If a prearranged number of stewards arrive on the night and it's found that few people turn up then they can hardly send surplus stewards home as they would still need to be paid.
Imagine you have arranged the night to work for United as a Steward. You travel to turn up and then are told you are not needed. and won't be paid. Would you turn up for work with that outfit again. I think not.

There must be someway of telling how many stewards are needed per match. This number should be done on a match by match basis. Someone should be looking at the average home attendance (Saturday afternoon will differ to a Tuesday night), the opposition (Exeter will attract more home fans than Burton), the average away attendance of the opposition and the distance the away team are from us. It cannot be very difficult to form a simple equation to give the expected number of fans per match and therefore choose the appropriate number of stewards.Glostergull wrote:There is no way that you can predict how many stewards are needed for a match. Perfectly well aware you can't predict crowd numbers, however my only surprise was 33 turned up from Burton, personally was expecting less than that, and 1500 home fans was no real surprise (Andy Glostergull), also well aware there are regulations that state you have to have certain amount of stewards per crowd number.
Not knocking the club or Andy Candy that can been seen clearly, if people read what I've actually said. (Andy Glostergull) I am sure your aware there many who now work in this country on 0 hours contracts, your asked by the boss to turn up for work on Monday and if by 11am there's not enough work, you can asked to go home again.
There was what appears to have been a total and utter, complete over estimation on the numbers of stewards required Tuesday, which no doubt our club can and will pay for. That's why I asked a perfectly reasonable question, could some have been sent home, and if that person didn't want to work again because of it, so what. There are plenty more who can and will do the job, the NVQ qualifications required, aren't that hard to pass .
