Re: Ricey or Pokey

Got to agree with friendlygas, Poke made 4 or 5 quality saves and could have easily been 5 or 6.

I think he could do a decent job in L2 if got a manager that believes in him and plays to his strengths. He was decent for us, just went abit wrong in our relegation season from L1 and was a disaster under Buckle. I'm surprised he hasn't got himself a club yet really as a year or 2 ago there would have been alot of interest.

Certainly a much better option than Jerel Ifil lol.

Re: Torquay United v Cheltenham Town - 21/8/12

Hubert Parry wrote:Straight swap? Nope! Mansell is precisely the type of player that our current team is missing. Our midfield 'three' as it were is composed of a deep-lying tempo-dictating playmaker (Pack), a Jamie Ward-type 'in the hole' creative attacking midfielder (Deering), and a hard-working bruiser type (Penn). I think we need a box-to-box player, probably to replace Penn and I regard Mansell as being the best in the division (he is also a leader - not to be understated). Whether he has the technical ability to manage in League One is another matter, but there are some players that improve the higher the level, and others who hit the ceiling. However, I think Penn does a great job and McGlashan can be a match winner on his day.

Re: Bodin, he is an interesting case as I have read the most varied of reviews about him and have seen him play a couple of times (including the Stoke PSF where he looked a real menace). Like all League Two wingers, including McGlashan, he can go missing. There is a Swindon fan who posts on our forum quite frequently who cannot understand why I pinpoint Bodin as a threat as he is 'Nowhere near good enough to play in Lge 2'. I wholly disagree with that and think he has a lot of potential. I do wonder whether we shall line Jombati up against him, as simply no-one gets past Jombati - who is by some distance the most talented right back we have had, certainly since Michael Duff, and will play in the Championship one day and maybe before the season is out.
Out of interest, how did Zeb play Sat? Is he playing as a central striker for you?

Didn't realise you were playing Stoke. Are they bringing a first team down?

Re: three on trial tonight

Jerel Ifil was absolutely terrible for us. Infact, I'd go as far to say he's one of the worst 5 footballers I've seen in my 15 years supporting the gas. Don't think there's any chance you'll sign him.

Also when Buckle took him there, he never told the Rovers board about his 'previous' which Higgs and co believed to be limited to just the Paul Wotton incident. When they found out about his criminal past, they had already signed him and we were merely passing on his file.

They were not amused!!!
I didn't know he's been arrested since being in Bristol. I don't know of any Rovers fans that do either. He's travelling to and from Swindon everyday so not convinced.

Richinns wrote: I think you guys never saw the Zebroski we did but an extra 10k is always welcome! If they pay what we paid for Bodin then I think we have better value for money as Bodin has a bigger future than Zeb can achieve.

Sounds like you guys are making room for a big signing up front?
Yeah without a doubt, I've only seen Bodin once but he looks a good prospect.

Think Zeb will do well for them. He had by far his best game for us away to them and scored. Most fans appreciate his effort and commitment, it was just his first touch and lack of awareness that let him down. He'll get a decent enough reception when he goes back to the Mem.

We signed David Clarkson last week but Mcghee said he wants another striker. Got a feeling we may bid a third time for Constable. Not convinced he's worth the fee of around 200k though. Harrold is bang out of form this pre-season so we're definitely short of goals.

I'd imagine so Rich. It's standard practice these days. I'm pleasently surprised we're getting a fee for him, especially as Cheltenham fans are talking of a fee of 50k+. I'd be very surprised if it was as high as that. If it is it could net you an extra 10k.

Re: Muzzy On The Move ??

Deal is going through tomorrow. Fee around 350k plus bonuses. Not bad for a player that only showed up when he could be bothered and rarely away.
Lincoln get 20%

Re: Last seasons away followings - Impressive!!

Very confusing stats. Here's a much better one http://www.football-league.co.uk/static ... 950,00.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The average away following for a L2 club was 421 per game. You averaged 432 which is decent considering your location and considerably more than the season before when you average 248.

Re: Muzzy On The Move ??

Matt asked for an update on the Muzzy saga. Well he's been making it perfectly clear all summer he wants to leave to go to M'Boro and has been re-tweeting stuff from their fans, aswell as saying he's been kept against his will. We all knew he's likely to be off but the way he's gone about things is so un-professional. I personally can't wait for him to go. Whatever happens with Eunan, he's acted in the right way.

Last nights tweets to a Boro fan:
Bully ‏@bully89
@Muzza_7 pack ur bags and get to Portugal ;-) #MFC

Mustapha Carayol ‏@Muzza_7
@bully89 I wish mate haha

Bully ‏@bully89
@Muzza_7 shouldn't be too long? Papers all saying its virtually done

Mustapha Carayol ‏@Muzza_7
@bully89 hopefully not mate...

He also tweeted there should be an update on his future soon. We won't get the 500k the paper mentioned, Boro offered around 200-250k but we're apparently holding out for 400k. I'd imagine a comprimise will be met at around 300k, with 20% going to Lincoln.

Things are going very slow on the transfer front over here. Only a couple of youngsters signed and Jim Patterson. We're still 2 centre backs, a winger (2 if Muzzy goes), a centre mid (imo) and a striker, oh not to mention a keeper as Bevan is out injured (surprise surprise) so I'm not too keen on relying on an 18yo who's only played one football league game.

Re: Aaron downes signs!

miagsygas wrote:If you guys have 2/3 reliable centre halves, this is a cracking signing for you. If your relying on Downes, then this signing is a mistake, unfortunately. In my opinion, fully fit, one of the better centre halves i have seen at this level. Really attacks the ball, both in the air and on the ground, and good positionally aswell as a bit of a leader. There is a reason, however, that despite us needing 2 centre halves, that McGhee didn't approach him. I'd put money on him not lasting the season (which is unfortunate, as he is a top, top pro) and we already have Adam Virgo who can't train full time in a Ledley King-esque manner. Also you have to wonder how the previous serious injuries have affected him, as aforementioned he came back after his most recent one and looked a shade of his former self.

Wish him and you guys all the success, and if he can keep healthy you've got a top signing. Unfortunately though, that's a big if. That being said i did hear you had a top physio so if anyone can succeed in keeping him on the pitch it would be you.
I'd much rather an injury prone Downes than Virgo though!
